I completed this illustration for PostHuman Studios' most recent publication X-Risks.

I uploaded my process below the final image if you want to take a look!
I completed this commission about a year ago, and my process, while basically the same, has changed a bit.

The thumbnail stage I decided to show is more of a refined thumbnail --- I had already done sketches on pieces of paper while at work as well as on vacation to keep myself thinking about the composition. In this case, the client felt that the creature looming over the character was the best direction for this illustration.

At this point, I take my refined thumbnail and make sure it meets the required dimensions. I then increase the dpi from 300 to anywhere between 450 and 600, so that by the final, I can get some nice, crisp edges when I shrink it down.

I work this into the greyscale image, seen on the bottom of the three color comps.
